Wrist strains or chronic sprainsUsually, wrist injuries occur from falling. Whether this falling stems from athletic events or a bit of clumsiness, the area affected is crucial to everyday activities and causes extreme pain. This injury commonly becomes chronic because people rarely give it enough time to heal properly. Because the ligaments are affected, which do not get much blood supply, it takes longer for it to heal, anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks depending on the severity. In the worst cases where the ligament is completely torn, surgery will have to be performed. Physician directed stretching and strengthening exercises will be done and a brace or cast will have to be worn, depending on activity level and severity of injury.
