Personal injuryPeople injure themselves every day. While you wouldn't go to the emergency room for a paper cut, you might need more help than you think. Some of the most common personal injuries are burns, dislocations, fractures, sprains and strains. Dislocations happen when a joint becomes misaligned. Not only is this painful, and must be realigned, but this also causes damage to ligaments. Fractures refer to any type of crack or break of the bone. This may be caused by anything from falling to cancer complications. Sprains are damage done to ligaments. This includes stretching and tearing, where the severity of the damage correlates to recovery time. Strains refer to what is commonly called a “pulled muscle”. Muscle fibers are torn resulting from overextension. These can injuries can occur anywhere and to anyone. Persistent pain from an old injury might be cause for alarm. A physician directed, medical evaluation can show the patient the severity of the injury and whether rehabilitation, pharmaceuticals or even surgery might be needed.
