NeuralgiaNeuralgia is the pain that follows a certain nerve's path. In many cases the cause of the pain is unknown, but in some cases has resulted from previous trauma, chemical irritation, or tumors. The pain has been described as a sharp, stabbing pain or a constant burning pain. The diagnosis for neuralgia is usually a long process. Because there are no specific guidelines for the disorder, most tests act to rule out other types of ailments. If there is a known cause, such as a tumor, or previous unresolved injury, the treatment of these should take care of the pain associated with the neuralgia. In cases where there is no known cause, medication will be prescribed. In cases of more extreme pain, potential nerve blocks, or spinal stimulation will be implemented. .
