Multiple SclerosisMultiple sclerosis is a degenerative disease in which the nerves of the body are affected. Nerves are wrapped in a myelin, or fatty sheath that creates faster conduction for the electrical impulses. Multiple sclerosis attacks the myelin, creating slower conduction and decreased motor function. Multiple sclerosis means “multiple scars” referring to the scars created on the nerve from the disease. Patients will exhibit problems with speech, coordination, balance, vision, muscle movement, memory and emotion. In the most severe incidents, MS will cause irreversible severe mental and physical disability. No definitive cause has been identified for multiple sclerosis, and there has been no identified cure. Mostly physicians can help with supportive care which includes physician directed medication. Dietary and nutritional changes can also be recommended by a physician, which in some cases have been shown to be successful.
