Degenerative Disc DiseaseDisc degeneration is a common factor of aging. Although the name describes the disorder as a disease, that is truly not the case. It is simply a breaking down of the discs that can lead to further problems. When the body ages, the discs dry out and lose their flexibility, thus grinding against one another. Also, bone does not have the vascularization, or blood flow that tissue does, so it does not repair itself as readily. There is no way to reverse the process of disc degeneration, there are only ways to strengthen the body and minimize side effects. This can be accomplished with spinal injections, medication or physician directed chiropractic work.
